Trees vs. Grass (Value)

As a landscape appraiser, I can tell you that grass and flowers have no value, shade trees do and in fact immediately have a higher species rating which adds to your real-estate value.  You can replace sod and flowers effortlessly, trees not so much if at all. Trees live longer and they increase in size and value.

So home owners if you want grass especially Bermuda, you will harm the trees on your property. Know this, improper or unprofessional care of your trees can negatively affect your real-estate value. Focusing on turf grass at the behest of the shade tree by pruning the tree in such a way to accommodate turf grass generally harms the tree. This is done by ignoring the proper pruning practices, dictated by character and species requirements. What you end up with are trees no matter what species all look alike, “Broccoli”.  Excessive thinning and raising of the canopy.
