Mature  trees are a valuable asset to any landscape.  Some property owners may have sentimental value attached to an older tree on their property.  Particularly for those who have inherited a property, a mature tree may bring back memories of wonderful times spent together with their parents or grandparents. However, a mature tree that is clearly declining with age and stress, may be an accident waiting to happen.  For those that have mature trees on their property, it is definitely advisable to check their trees periodically for disease, dead  limbs, or excessive leaning, by law you are required.  This is particularly important for trees that are near property lines or if small children are known to frequent areas nearby.  Tree limbs that may “look” fine have been known to snap off after a windy period or from the vibration emanating from a neighbor’s lawn mower or other power equipment.  Of course, no one wants a small child to suffer an injury from encountering an unsafe tree and if something adverse should happen to a neighbor from an unstable tree on your property, you the property owner will be held liable for damages.
