The tree care and service industry remains an unregulated field but consumers deserve some validation that their tree company/arborist has been certified by a respected independent entity to properly care for their trees. Tree care is a segment of the field of tree service. All too often, consumers trust their trees to tree services where tree cutters aren't required to attend school.

Presently, there are over 200 listings/companies listed in the yellow pages for tree services, but less than 10% have been certified as professionally capable of performing work on trees. Self-proclaimed tree doctors and tree experts have no laws, rules and regulations to substantiate their competency to perform their field of work, unlike doctors in other professional fields like medicine, veterinary professionals and the like.
